Shilaharas of Kolhapur, attributed to Sri Vairi Martanda (c.1050-1075), Gold Gadyana, 4.27g, Obv: Garuda seated cross-legged, holding a mace in one hand,Rev: Nagari legend Shri Vairi Martanda within a circular border, surrounded by dots. Extremely Fine+.Unique. Marasimha succeeded Gonka and he was probably the first of the powerful rulers of the Shilahara dynasty of South Maharashtra. One of his many titles was ’Vairi Martanda’ which means the king who is (like) the bedazzling Sun for his enemies. A copper plate grant describes the fort of Kilagila as his capital. Extremely Fine+.
