Gupta Empire, Samudragupta (c. 335-380 AD), Gold Dinar, 7.78g, ‘King & Queen’ Type, Obv: The royal couple stands facing each other, king wearing ear-rings and close fitting tailed coat, king holding crescent standard in his left hand and offering with right hand an object which looks like a ring or a bangle, Kumaradevi standing before him facing to right, king & Queen wears a diadem on his head with crescent on top, both heads surrounding by halo, with legend ‘Kumaradevi’ in the left field, ‘Chandra’ under arm and ‘Gupta’ on crescent standard side, Rev: Goddess Durga seated on a lion holding cornucopia and pasha with Brahmi legend ‘Lichhavyah’ to commemorate the marriage alliance of Chandragupta I with the Lichhavi tribe of Nepal area.
